Satoru Iwata, fourth President and CEO of Nintendo, was a beloved member of the video game industry until his passing on July 11, 2015. Iwata was promoted to President at a time when the Nintendo GameCube was losing popularity and the move to online gaming was in its infancy. A dedicated gamer himself and brilliant businessman, Iwata led the company to develop the Nintendo DS and Wii, which broke company sales records. It wasn’t just his business accomplishments that made Iwata so well-liked, however; he firmly believed in a fun and fair gaming experience stemmed from high-quality games.
“Video games are meant to be just one thing: fun. Fun for everyone.” – Satoru Iwata
